You Are Not Alone

You Are Not Alone

"Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me. If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall cover me,’ even the night shall be light about me; indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to You." — Psalm 139:7–12

God Sees — And He Was There

Kay Arthur, in Lord I Want to Know You, explains something we often overlook when we’re hurting:

When we’ve been mistreated, disrespected, or betrayed, our tendency is to stuff the pain deep inside, hoping it will disappear. But our hearts and minds replay the memory again and again.

So where does healing begin?

With the recognition of El Roi — the God who sees.

He saw the sin committed against you.
He was there when it happened.
And He promises that nothing is wasted in His sovereign care.

Even the most painful circumstances can be used in His economy for good. (See Psalm 9:10.)

As you letter this passage, take time to let each phrase minister to your heart.

Try emphasizing the words Spirit, presence, and You are there.

  • These anchor words remind us that there is nowhere we can go where God does not already see, know, and lovingly hold us.

  • Practice letting your lettering flow across the page in a way that feels like movement — a reminder that God’s presence follows you everywhere.

Journaling Prompt

Sweet friend, take a few quiet moments this week to write honestly in your journal:

  • Where in your life have you felt unseen, mistreated, or forgotten?

  • How does remembering El Roi, the God who sees, bring comfort to those memories?

  • Write down the situations you’ve tried to bury… and then remind your heart: He was there. He saw it all. He has not forsaken me.

A Gentle Encouragement

If this week’s verse touches a tender place in your heart, I encourage you to read Kay Arthur’s Lord I Want to Know You. It’s a powerful resource for knowing God’s character more deeply — and for finding healing in His names.

Most of all, remember this: You are not alone.

God sees you.
God is with you.
And He will never forsake those who seek Him.

I’m praying for you this week,
