Dwelling in the Shelter of the Almighty

Dwelling in the Shelter of the Almighty

There's something incredibly comforting about Psalm 91:1:

"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty."

This verse has always been dear to me, but as I sat with the June scripture card artwork, it stirred something deeper. The image of the bird - gentle, peaceful, and nestled in a sea of flowers - reminded me of how God calls us to rest in Him. To dwell. Not just to visit occasionally, but to live there, in His presence. This month I asked Adrianne what this verse meant to her, and I love what she wrote!

Here is what Adrianne had to say...

The word shelter stood out the most. God is our shelter in every season—in hurt, in joy, in fear, in growth. We are invited to run to Him, not just when life feels overwhelming, but always. And when we do, we are promised His nearness, His shadow, His covering.

I’ll be honest: I’ve always been someone who wrestles with fear. Not just the “afraid of the dark” kind, but the kind that whispers, “Are you doing enough?”—as a mom, a wife, a friend, a church member. And yet, this verse is a gentle reminder that under the shadow of the Almighty, fear doesn’t get the final say. His shadow is where peace lives.

For me, “dwelling” looks like prayer, listening, and asking for guidance. It means being still enough to hear Him and brave enough to trust Him. I truly believe God has been protecting me all my life. Even when I didn’t see it, He was there.

I also love how this artwork includes pieces of music woven into the branch. Music is deeply personal to me—it’s often how I express feelings when words fall short. It reminds me that God uses even the smallest things to draw us near and remind us we are not alone.

If I could paint the feeling of this verse, it would be just like this card: a safe place under soft wings, with beauty, music, and light surrounding me. That is the shelter I want to abide in. That is the comfort I hope others feel when they see this month’s card.

No matter what season you're in, may you find peace in the truth that you are never without shelter when you're in the shadow of the Almighty.
