Come Boldly
“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" Hebrews 4:16
Draw Near to God has been our year-long theme and each month we have a focus verse and a focus word to help support us along this journey. Each of the month’s are special to me, but this one has a precious place in my heart.
I read a story once of a child standing at a distance outside the castle of the Queen of England. The prince happened upon the child and questioned her as to what she was doing. The child timidly replied that she was watching in hopes of getting a glimpse of the queen. The prince, with great enthusiasm, told her there was no need for her to watch for a glimpse of the queen. He offered her an invitation to come inside the castle and he would personally introduce her to the queen.
This simple little story greatly impacted me. I related it to my relationship with God. I’ve looked and looked unsuccessfully for the story, hoping to read it again. I see Hebrews 4:16 in a different way because of this little story. I’ve always struggled with the word “Boldly”. For so long the thought of “coming boldly to the throne of grace” was for everyone else….for some reason I just couldn’t apply it to myself. This little story caused me to dig deeper into this verse by reading commentaries and learning more about the background, I understand this so much better! I’m excited to spend September soaking & surrounding ourselves in these powerful words.
Jesus, is the HIGH Priest. HE interceded on my behalf. This little story really helped me realize that for years, I have been like that timid little girl in the story. And Jesus is like the Prince, not only extending the invitation, but allowing me to approach through Him. Because of HIS great sacrifice, I can not only COME BOLDLY to the Throne of grace for salvation and forgiveness, but I can COME BOLDLY to the Throne of Grace through prayer in my time of need, BECAUSE I have received the INVITATION. I am no longer a timid stranger. I am a beloved member of THE family. A child of THE King. Allowed to call Him Abba, Father.
When we read the word BOLDLY, think of
Confidence, because I’ve been INVITED
Fearless, because I won’t be rejected
Knowing, I am already accepted
Assurance, my relationship is secure
Empowered, because of Jesus
Privileged, because HE is THE King and I am HIS daughter
I have received my INVITATION to COME again and again and again….
