Words are fascinating...

They have the ability to build up

or tear down.

They have the ability to bring life

or bring death.

In Genesis

In Genesis, God used words to speak creation into existence.

With words, Jesus calmed a storm.

The words of Jesus spoke life back into a dead Lazarus.

Satan twisted The Word of God, to tempt the Son of God.

Many men have attempted to use The Word as a tool to manipulate and control fellow brothers & sisters.

The Holy Spirit Uses the Word of God

The Holy Spirit uses The Word of God to teach, correct and comfort the sons and daughters of The Father.

Throughout the years, it has been The Word spoken through study of the Bible, songs, books, and other people, that has captured my heart’s attention.  It has settled my racing mind and comforted the deep broken places of my heart.

It has many times convicted my wrong motives and selfish desires. The Word has guided me when I’ve felt utterly lost and spoken hope back into many hopeless situations. Countless times God has used the words of others as a reminder to me of The Truth.

The Power of Words

The power of all words is amazing, but especially the miraculous Word of God.   Although I am often guilty of taking this miracle lightly, I use my journals to try to capture and record the Words that have spoken to me.

My mind has the tendency to quickly forget, so my journals serve as Reminders of Truth...like a memory bank and even a record of my faith journey.

How do I know what to write in my journals?

Well, my journals are just an overflow of what was happening while reading or listening to The Word or a book. I try to capture and record the Key Words that might help trigger my mind to later be able to remember the rest of the story!

My Bibles are messy, full of notes and highlighter colors marking a path of where I’ve been. My journals are messy, too, and even unorganized, but they are evidence of the powerful Words that He spoke to my heart!

I use my journals to break down The Word into smaller bite size pieces, doing this seems to help me write it deeper in my heart.

Using Your Own Creativity to Grow in God's Word

I just started teaching my Creative Hearts group how I do this. My prayer is that I will serve them well by teaching them to use their own creativity and lettering as a tool for scripture memory and stress relief, but most importantly, how we can apply it to our lives in a way to strengthen our faith journey.

Working on this new project has brought me great joy!

Journals Become Artwork

For years, my journals have also been a birthing room for some of my artwork!  Many of my designs are just an overflow from my journals and a way to remind & encourage myself, but also others.

Whether it’s celebrating a joyful milestone or grieving a tremendous loss, I have found it so helpful to surround myself with reminders of Truth. The majority of my artwork is my effort to help others do the same.

I find so much joy in giving to others, so we choose the products that we make based on if it will be a good home decor piece and giftable.

A Peek Into My Heart

The stacks of my notebooks and journals are like footprints recording so much of my journey. They aren’t neat or organized, but they are a beautiful record of His Word and of His faithfulness.

If you don’t use a journal, I would love to encourage you to start using one. And the next time you see my artwork, you will know you are peeping into my heart and seeing a little part of my story.

Hi Martha, Yes, It actually is called a Single Column Journaling Bible by Crossway. I’ve really enjoyed using it. Then I have an additional journal that I write more detailed notes

Question: In the first two pics, is that a Bible with the space to add notes? That’s what I need because in my bibles there is hardly room to write. Maybe it’s called a journaling Bible? Thanks
